Me, Green Foxy in the Ammarnäs mountains by the Vindel river.1977.

Autumn 1977 we wanted to make an easy hike in the mountains. We went to Ammarnäs and made a walk by the Vindel River in a valley named Vindelådalen. This aerie was a Nature reserve.

Here I'm standing by the Potato hill in Ammarnäs. On this hill they cultivate potatoes. On this side of the hill the potatoes will not freeze so easy. This hill is famous.
Ove parked the car near this signpost. Me in my Fjällräven Greenland jacket by a signpost. My blue Fjällräven backpack is standing on the ground.
Ove on a little bridge over a creek.
Vi were on our way to Aitenjas.
There was a cottage in Aitenjas.  But it was locked. The house belonged to the people who manage the woods and this nature reserve. Beside the house you can see the "outhouse" That is an outside lavatory (toilet) There is no water closet in the wilderness.
These pipes were near the locked house. We used them as a chair.
We never needed to be thirsty. We could drink the water direct from the Vindel River. And we drank a lot.
Ove by the Vindel River. It was gorgeous there.

We found a nice place by the river with many mountain birches

Ove was camouflaged in his beige Fjällräven Greenland jacket.
But I was camouflage in my green Greenland jacket too. :-)
Ove lit a fire on an outside fireplace and we hade grilled hot dogs.
Me by the fire. The temperature became 0 degrees Celsius. But we kept warm in the sleeping bags in our tent.
The next morning I cooked blueberry soup to breakfast. We had hard dry bread to the blueberry soup.
I liked these mountain birches very much.
Vi moved on. Ove by the Vindel River. There was a dark cloud over the river. But fortunately there came no rain.
We came to a cottage. This was for workers. But if there were no workers you were allowed to use the cottage.
That time we had no GPS or mobile phone. In this cottage was a help telephone. (behind me) If you was in need you could use it.
It was 27 kilometres from here  to the village Ammarnäs. But Ove drove the car to a parking lot. and we had to walk 16 kilometres to this cottage.
Ove lit the stove so it went warm in the cottage and we could boil water to coffee and cook on it. It was wonderful to be in this cottage. We did not need to sleep in our tent.
There was a bridge over the Vindel river. You could continue and then go up on the mountains too. But Ove had headache the night  before and we decided to take it easy and go the same way back the next day
It was gorgeous to se the rapid Vindel River in real.
The  rushing water in the Vindel River.

It was wonderful to go to the outhouse (dry privy closet)and not need to do it on the ground.
Me by the cottage. I loved this cottage.
The next day vi moved on.
The weather went better.

We put up our tent near a creek  named  Guolettsbäcken.
Me by the creek named Guolettsbäcken.
Ove lit a fire. But all our hot dogs were eaten. So we could not grill.
We put up our tent here. It was a peaceful place.

Our car. Vi put most of the heavy stuff in our car and only took food and stuff for a day trip with us.
We walked up on a mountain on a walking route called Kungsleden. That route is very long and goes far up north. But you can walk parts of it.
We met a flock of reindeer. They were on the Kungsled too! What to do. We did not want to walk into the flock. We looked at the reindeer and they were looking at us. Then the reindeer changed direction and we could move on. He, he, such kind reindeer who made the way free for us :)
We met a couple up in the mountains. We had our lunch on this place and they had lunch to. It was fun to talk with them. In the mountains you are more close to strangers as in town.

The couple should walk to Ammarnäs. But had no car nearby. They had to walk the long way. Then we brought them to Ammarnäs in our car. But how to get 4 people and the big backpacks in a SAAB 96! We succeeded get in all. Not a real comfortable trip, but it was good that they got our help. It was from here 20 kilometres to Ammarnäs. They were very grateful for our help.
Ove by the bridge on Kungsleden.
Ove and I by lake Tjulträsk. We met a couple from Holland in the Ammarnäs hotel and we became friends. These friend took the picture of us.
They took this picture too.
On our trip home by car, we saw a reindeer on the road.
Some reindeer by the road. Ove had to drive careful. There were reindeer everywhere.
