Foxy to the zoo in the pouring rain
2011-07-12
I use to call myself for "Foxy" in my Fjällräven (arctic fox) jacket.
Me, Red Riding Hood and the friendly wolves. This picture is fake. I copied in Foxy beside the wolves in Photo shop.
In real I was not beside the wolves.
She was IN FRONT  of the wolves!

The zoo keeper had opened the gate and went in for feeding the wolves. Then I was only one meter from the wolves. At the left you see the side of the open gate.

Then I hurried to take this picture before the zoo keeper closed the gate again. Taken 2006.

In 2006 I had nobody with me who could take a picture of me by the wolves. But in the year 2011 I had my husband with me and he should take pictures of me in my red jacket by the wolf cage.
When we were queuing to get food in the restaurant, the gulls were queuing too. This looked so funny :-)
Just when we had eaten the food it started raining. On this picture you can see how big raindrops were pouring down.
There never was a picture taken with Red Foxy by the wolf cage. Ove was under the roof of the café by the bears. I could go out, because I had my Fjällräven poncho. There was no shelter for Ove to stand and take a picture.

I copied myseff in  the poncho by a lonely wolf who dare to be out in the rain to say hello till Red Riding Hood.

After that the wolf was shaking off the rain from his fur and the wolf rushed to the shelter there the other wolves already were.

The zoo keeper told that they this year only had one Arctic fox. They should get more foxes next year when the new cage for the Arctic foxes was ready.  The only Arctic fox was already gone in shelter and I never saw him. Neither I saw the lynx and the red fox. They also had gone in shelter for the rain.
But the bears did not care about the rain. They were walking and playing as they used to do.
Ove took this picture of me from his shelter place. I and some other people had a poncho and they could be out in the rain and look at the bears.
But  later all the people were gone. And me, Poncho Foxy was alone with the bears.
Then the bear mother nursed her cubs in the pouring rain.
The cubs were real hungry.
The male bears were in the other cage. They did not care about the rain neither.
A wet mother bear with her wet cubs.
The cubs were playing.
They had a lot of fun in the rain.
Even though it was raining the cubs were in the water.
Suddenly there came a hard thunderclap. Then the bear mother was scared.
A bench in the rain. People went home with their children
The zoo became empty. We were standing a while in a shelter but they pouring rain did not stop. It was raining in hours. We had to give up like the others did.
The zoo visit was is not so much about animals. It was about a red poncho that gave shelter for the pouring rain. I kept my camera dry under the poncho.
And I kept my backpack dry under the poncho. Ove's backpack was soaked. His backpack got no place under his umbrella. But my shoes went wet. Ove had Gore tex shoes and kept dry on his feet.
I needed comfort and bought 2 small bear cubs and a wolf in the gift shop in the zoo. Unfortunately they had no red fox or Arctic fox
When I came back home I went to town and bought the same kind of Gore tex shoes that Ove has. Trademark: The North Face. Now I can keep my feet dry.

It was not a good day that day.

1. The internet did not work proper in the hotel.

2. There was so much queue in the restaurant and then we missed the time  when the man feeds the predators.

3. The pouring rain in hours ruined the zoo visit. The temperature went down to 13 degrees.

4. We were dirty and cold when we came to the hotel. Then the shower did not work.  We had been looking forward to a nice dinner and feel clean and warm again. Now we had to wait for the man to fix it. But he did not get it OK.

Need to vent about this.

But the red  Fjällräven poncho made that I got some nice pictures of the bears and that I could walk in the pouring rain.

I still have the memories of other years when the sun was shining and I could see the Arctic foxes.

Here is the site about my favourit animal: The Artcic Fox, called Fjällärven in Swedish.
