Rödluvan in the snow
Part 34
cleaning the roofs from snow

1998 and 2010

1998. February. We had so much snow that year and then they needed to clean the roofs from snow. We can see these roofs from our kitchen window
1998.February.They always are tied with a life lines.
1998. February. The snow that was lying on the roof a while is not so soft anymore. It can be like ice. Here they use a spade that looks like a spade for the garden.
1998. February. Here you see the big bits of snow falling down. Nobody may go there while they do the work.
1998. February. Here he is taking a big bit of snow again. There is a small railing at the end of the roof. This is good for the man so he will not glide down. But this railing also stops snow from falling down on the head of people.
2003-02-11. Here they are taking away snow and ice from the part of the roof that is under the railing.
2003-02-11. At the left of the picture is a man standing and watching the street so no people will go near the house.
2007-03-30. They can go on a kind of grating path on top of the roof.
2007-03-30. Also here they had a safety rope but you can't see the rope on the pictures.
2007-03-30. It looks real scary to see the men on the roof.
2007-03-30. Here one man is throwing down snow while the other is holding him on one of his legs to avoid he will glide down.
09-03-06.  Photo Ove Schedin. Here they are taking away snow under the railing again.
09-03-06. Taking away the snow under the railing. And here they did not need to go on the roof. They only can stand in the sky lift.

This looked real scary. They are going on the grating path on top of the roof. Both are connected on
lifelines.

The man on top is holding the other man on an extra rope.

This looks so scary but they have the

You can see a man watching behind the red car.

2010-02-07. Icicles on the roof.
2010-02-07. They are real big and dangerous. If they fall on your head you can be killed. Sometime workers need to come with a sky lift and take away hem.
2010-02-07. Ove always has a snow spade in his car. It is not like the spade for the garden or the roof. It is like a spoon.
2010-02-07. Ove took home it from the car a while.
2010-02-07. He had to clean the balcony from snow.
2010-02-07. There was much snow on the balcony.
2010-02-07. No people can go under the balcony because there is about 60 centimetre snow on the ground and then nobody can walk there and be hurt.
2010-02-11. This is a shovel for shovelling away the snow
2006-01-22. This is a big shovel.
A lot of snow on the roof of this house. But in the North of Sweden the roofs are made to stand the snow. Much snow on big sport halls with flat roofs can be dangerous if the snow is too heavy.
I saw these big icicles on an old building of the hospital.
Icicles.
At the right you see a ladder. But there are icicles on the ladder. It looks like there are glass windows on it.
More icicles.
Here you can see how BIG these icicles were. If you sloud get such an icicle on you head you will die. The next day they had taken away all the icicles.
Two men cleaning a roof from an on old building at the hospital. Look at the X I put in the picture. There you see a big bit of icy snow coming down.
The men are tied to a safety line.
It's very dangeous to stand near the house when bits of snow and ice are falling down. But they put up temporary fences under the roof and there is a man watching that nobody will go there.
There was a lot of snow on that roof.
2010-04-04. I can see this trash house from the kitchen window. The snow is soon gliding down from the roof and it looks like a blanket that is hanging down. The next day it felt down. But on that place no people can go. If this had been gliding down from a high roof in a street, it should have been dangerous.
2010-04-07. I walked home from town and found this warning by a house.
2010-04-07. Big blocks of ice had already fallen from the roof on the sidewalk.
2010-04-07. There was still much dangerous snow and ice was on that roof. I did not go near the houses on my walk home. And when I passed this e I had to walk on the road.
2011-12-12. Cleaning roofs in town.
2012-01-20. The plywood roof of the gateway the building workers put up was too weak for so much snow. I called to somebody about this.
They put of scaffolding poles and took away some of the snow.
2012-01-23. They had a take a way icicles from the old town hall with a sky lift.
2012-01-23. Closer picture of this.
2012-01-23. Icicles on the town hall roof.
2012-02-16. Here the maintenance is cutting down icicles from the roof with a long pin and a kind of hack on it.
2012-02-16. Here you can see better how it works. This is practical because then you don't need a sky lift. But this only works with lower buildings.
