Green Foxy's summer

Part 30

To the Lycksele Zoo
2011-08-30

Arctic fox, red fox
and train trip.

The highlight of the summer. Part 1

2011-08-30. A male Arctic Fox. Is not he beautiful?
Happy me in my Fjällräven jacket with a real fjällräv (Arctic fox) in the background. This was the happiest day of my summer. :-)
We went by train to Lycksele. Here I'm waiting for the train.
This train is new. Before there were no trains going to Lycksele. Of course we wanted to try this train.
The door of the driver's compartment was open. And was open all the time while the engineer was running the train. Then we coud see a lot. Ove in the train.
Happy me in the train. It was so much fun to do this train trip.
Me by the train. The conductor in the background. he was such a kind man. And he was wishing us a nice day.
We could not go back to Umeå with this train. Because the last train went back in the afternoon and that was too early. We should take the bus home.
We walked through the zoo. And than I saw the arctic fox lying in his cage.
The zoo keeper told us that they only ha one male arctic fox. The female went sick and died. But they should get a new female to him the next spring.
I said: "Hi little fellow can you please look at me!
"Pssst look at me!"
"I have an arctic fox logotype  on my jacket".  When I said this, he looked at me :-)
He was so beautiful. When the new female comes she sure will fall in love with him.
It was difficult to get good pictures of him. Because of the fence.
But we succeeded to get some nice pictures because of the telephoto lens. And took a lot of pictures.
Such a nice tail you have.
Two similar pictures. But not real the same.
This one is more clear.
Stand up!
Roll around!
Turn around!
Sit down!
The weight of the arctic fox is between 1,5 - 4 kilo, it lives in about 14 years, the  mating is February - March, the pups are born in May  - the middle of July. There can be 1 - 13 pups in the same litter.
Sit nice!
.
Sit nice! Aw! Now you are sitting very nice!
This is the new cage. The arctic foxes has much space and can run around here.
They also can hide in the bushes and plants.
The arctic fox  is looking at the zoo keeper's car that is coming.
The zoo keeper came with food.
He took it and walked away with it.
The arctic  fox is looking at me.
Here he is looking at another direction.
.
Such a charming face.
.
Stand up!
Sit down!
Is there something in the bushes?
We also went to the red fox. This female was found in the woods as a pup. Her mother died. They took her to the zoo and raised her. Here she got a happy life.
She got a male fox and got pups. (Old picture)
Here the pups were dancing. This looked so funny (old picture)
Here she was looking at the car that came with food.
This female was real funny.
Once she gave us a real show and was climbing up on the fence. But she never can escape because there it a little roof inside. There was a lot of laughter when she did this.
Now she was waiting for the zoo keeper.
She always has been a real clown and she still was. When the zoo keeper gave her food she did not take it.
Don't you want the food?
She finally took it.
She ran away with the food.
But she came back.
She got some more food.
She took a little bit food.
When the zoo keeper was gone, she went digging in the ground. She wanted to store the food there.
Yes this is a good place.
He, he, he, this looked so funny.
Now the work was done.
She walked away.
Bye, bye
Ove took this picture of the male. He only rushed to the zoo keeper, took food and run away. And did not show up anymore. He was shy.
Here I'm standing together with the female.
She was looking at me.
It was fun that this fox was so tame and wanted to show up. But as she was raised here, she was used with people.
I was so happy that the arctic fox was posing for the camera so nice.
In part 2 I will tell more about the zoo and the other animals.
